What is hypnosis
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Hypnosis is when a person experiences a deep relaxation, and they can focus on appropriate suggestions made by the therapist.

In a hypnotherapy session the client is always in control and cannot be made to do anything. We cannot make you rob a bank, bark like a dog or murder someone.

Therapists make suggestions to bring about positive changes within the client, empowering them.

Hypnotherapy is not a state of deep sleep, but rather a trance-like condition where the client is in an enhanced state of awareness and concentrating entirely on the hypnotherapist’s voice. During hypnosis, the clients breathing becomes slower and deepens, the pulse rate also drops. Awareness of unpleasant symptoms such as nausea and the sensation of pain are alleviated.

How does it work?

In our formative years any information given by those around us, whether good or bad, can have a profound effect on our lives.

Our subconscious takes this information in and believes it to be true.

Without us even knowing it.

So, being told we're stupid, ugly, fat or useless can become a fact to our minds, an unshakable belief that can shadow us for our entire lives.

Thankfully, hypnosis can turn those beliefs around, and in a relatively short period of time.

Hypnotherapists bypass the conscious mind and access the subconscious. This is done by overloading the critical thought process. This triggers the more instinctive subconscious to awaken.

What is the Theory of Mind?

Each day our mind is inundated with millions of message units, such as thoughts, ideas and tactile sensations. These message units enter through our five senses and, come from...

Our body which gives us our sensory perception in the form of our five senses, sight, sound, smell, touch and taste.

Our environment gives us television, radio, day to day dealings with people.

Our conscious mind gives us thoughts and feelings about everything we incur during our day.

While our subconscious is responsible for our conditioned responses.

Over the course of a single day, this can result in an incredible amount of information our mind takes in.
Each message unit is taken into our conscious mind first where they reside for approx. 1 1/2 hours.

From here they pass into the critical area where they are held for around 24 hours.
If a suggestion has been taken in which is harmful or detrimental to our thoughts, it is rejected.

If too many message units are taken in and accumulate in the critical area, we become overwhelmed and fatigued.

During this period some people become irritable and upset. Much like the toddler who becomes overtired at a party.

Our body prepares us for sleep in order to vent message units during dreams.

The more emotional traumas a person has, the more sleep which may be needed.

During sleep all those accumulated message units go straight into to our subconscious mind. They are analysed and either approved, where they drop into our modern memory, or discarded through our dreams.

On average we stay awake from between 12-16 hours a day. The longer our critical memory holds a message unit, the more it becomes diluted or weakens.

This is why affirmations work better if done just before bed.
